Harwich Trio, MVP Pollock
Of Falmouth Lead 22-Player
CCBL 2008 All-League Team
Led by Most Valuable Player
A.J. Pollock of the Falmouth Commodores and the trio of hard-hitting catcher
Tommy Medica, infielder Joseph Sanders and pitcher Chris Manno of the league champion Harwich Mariners, the 2008 All-League Team has been announced by Cape Cod Baseball League Commissioner Paul Galop.
In all, 22 players were selected, including five from the Hyannis Mets, four from the Bourne Braves and three each from the Mariners and the Commodores.
Pollock (Notre Dame) was named league MVP after finishing second in the batting race behind Falmouth teammate and fellow CCBL All-League second baseman
Jimmy Cesario (Houston), .387 to .377. He is joined in the All-League outfield by
Marc Krause (Ohio U.) and Jordan Henry (Mississippi), both of the Bourne Braves, and
Trent Ashcraft (East Carolina) of the Hyannis Mets. Harwich’s Sanders (Auburn) was selected as utilityman.
Cesario, who won the Thurman Munson Award as CCBL batting champion, is joined in the infield by defensively perfect first baseman
Ben Paulsen (Clemson) of the Hyannis Mets, Outstanding Pro Prospect Grant Green (Southern California) of the Chatham A’s, power-hitting third baseman
Chris Dominguez (Louisville), who led the league with 10 home runs, and utility infielder
Raynor Campbell (Baylor) of the Wareham Gatemen.
Starting pitchers include Nick McCully (Coastal Carolina) and Bryce Stowell (California-Irvine), both of the Bourne Braves,
Nick Hernandez (Tennessee) of the Cotuit Kettleers, Matt Thomson (San Diego) of the Orleans Cardinals,
Andrew Carraway (Virginia) of the Hyannis Mets and Harwich’s Manno (Duke).
The team’s two catchers are Harwich’s Medica (Santa Clara), who finished third with a .352 batting average, and
Tony Sanchez (Boston College) of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. Sportsmanship Award winner
Kevin Patterson (Auburn) of the Cotuit Kettleers and Brent Milleville (Stanford) of the Brewster Whitecaps were chosen as designated hitters.
Relief Pitcher of the Year Russell Brewer (Vanderbilt) of the Hyannis Mets, who recorded a league-leading 12 saves, shares the All-League bullpen with flame-throwing
Ben Tootle (Jacksonville State) of the Falmouth Commodores.
