Cape League Invitational Tryout scheduled for Saturday, May 31, 2014

     The Cape Cod Baseball League will conduct its annual Frank Finn Cape League Invitational Tryout on behalf of all 10 Cape Cod Baseball League teams on Saturday, May 31.

      The Cape Cod Baseball League will conduct its annual Frank Finn Cape League Invitational Tryout on behalf of all 10 Cape Cod Baseball League teams on Saturday, May 31 at Spillane Field, located in the town of Wareham. Directions to the field are listed on the Gatemen website: www.gatemen.org.

      The tryout will be under the direction of CCBL coaches and representatives at Spillane Field. Organization and administration of the tryout will be handled by Cotuit Kettleers Assistant General Manager Sue Pina (508-291-5834, FAX 508-957-8677 or [email protected]). Please direct all contacts concerning any aspect of the tryout process to Sue Pina.

      We are requesting Coaches input as to those players on your team that you would recommend to participate – players who you feel can play at the Cape League level. Please be sure that the player(s) meets NCAA summer league guidelines and that he has not signed a 2014 NCAA letter of commitment with any summer collegiate league or team.

      The following procedures/guidelines should be carefully noted:

      (1.) The CCBL tryout is by invitation only. Your input is crucial. Our invitations will be issued with the intention of balancing positions.

      Jim Higgins/Peter Ford/Sue Pina will contact every player who is being invited. Players who have not been contacted, have not been invited.

      We will extend invitations to approximately 80 players. Representatives will attend from all 10 CCBL teams.

      (2.) The schedule at Spillane Field:
           9:30 a.m. – Registration at the field
           10:30 a.m. – Extended infield/outfield drill
           11:30 a.m. – Players split into three teams for multi-inning scrimmage

      (3.) Players should come dressed; bathroom facilities will be available. Position players please bring a wooden bat and batting helmet.

      (4.) We will have an athletic trainer on hand.

      Please complete and return the attached recommendation form by Friday, May 10, 2014.

      On behalf of the CCBL, we wish to thank you for your participation in the process. We sincerely hope that it will result in a meaningful number of the players earning a spot on a Cape League roster.
