CAPE COD, Mass. – Cape Cod Baseball League President  Judy Walden Scarafile announced today the formation of “Wear Red on Friday to Support Our Troops,” where home teams at every CCBL game on Fridays during the season will wear special red uniform tops to support U.S. troops who are serving in harms way.

Serving as co-sponsors of the project are Advanced Embroidery and Eye Health Services, which will have their names on the sleeves of 400 shirts for the 10 teams. In addition the Support Our Troops red, white and blue ribbon is embroidered on the front of the jersey.

Red Shirt Friday is an idea that is spreading across the country and has Americans wearing a red shirt on Friday as a show of solidarity in support of our troops. See www.redshirtfridays.org for mission statement and more information.

“At our January executive board meeting, Damon Collins and Stuart Schulman from Advanced Embroidery made a presentation on this wonderful idea to do Wear Red on Friday to Support Our Troops Shirts,” said Scarafile. “How generous it was of Stuart and Damon to offer to cover 50% of the cost of the program. Our major sponsor and friend, Randy Shepard from Eye Health Services strongly supported the idea and we are very happy that Eye Health Services then stepped up to the plate to be co-sponsor. With these two sponsors we are able to provide the shirts to the 10 teams at no additional cost. This partnership with Advanced Embroidery and Eye Health Services is a perfect fit.”

The red CCBL shirts made their debut Sunday night during the 40th annual March of Dimes Telerama, which raises funds for the fight against prematurity, birth defects and infant mortality. The CCBL raised $9,570 during the final “Rowdy Hour" from 9 - 10pm..

“The Cape League contingent's extraordinary efforts during the final hour brought in close to $10,000, capping a great day for the March of Dimes," said event chairman Dick Sullivan. “Their efforts pushed the grand total to $80,000, a new record on the 40th anniversary of the event. I was so thrilled and proud of the Cape League family. They hit another home run.”
