Treasurer, Webmaster Steven Wilson Honored
As Cape Baseball League’s Executive of the Year

CHATHAM, Mass. -- The Cape Cod Baseball League has announced that league treasurer and webmaster Steven Wilson has been selected as winner of the 2008 Dick Sullivan Executive of the Year Award, which will be presented during the league’s Hall of Fame Brunch and Induction Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Chatham Bars Inn.

Created in 2006, the annual award honors distinguished service, which includes franchise and/or league management participation, outstanding leadership qualities enhancing the franchise and/or league reputation and success, professional behavior, timeliness of required reporting mechanisms, proactive guidance for student-athletes and overall performance that exceeds expectations by going above and beyond the call of duty.

Previous recipients are John Wylde of Wareham (2007) and Chuck Sturtevant of Falmouth (2006).
Wilson has contributed to the Cape League for more than two decades as its treasurer and as webmaster for www.capecodbaseball.org, the league’s popular Internet site that counted more than over 16 million hits last year. He is also an accomplished photographer and many of his baseball photos appear on the league web site.

“It has been an honor to be selected for this award,” Wilson said. “It has been a privilege to be a part of the growth and development of the league over the past 20 years.”

Wilson was the unanimous choice, according to league Commissioner Paul Galop, who is also a member of the award selection committee. “His ethics and integrity are absolutely second to none,” said Galop.

“To give Steven the award was a joy for everyone,” the commissioner continued. “When it was announced, there was a thunderous ovation in the room. The job of treasurer carries a mind-boggling amount of work, and Steven does an absolutely spectacular job. From his thoroughness in everything he does to the completeness of reports in meetings … what great hands we’re in. I can’t imagine where the Cape League would be without him,” Galop soncluded.

In addition to his vital contributions to the Cape League, Wilson is also the head baseball coach at Harwich High School. He had coached the JV team for 26 seasons before succeeding the legendary Fred Thacher last season.
