Red Sox 3, Whitecaps 2: Y-D rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Brewster at Stony Brook Field on Monday in Game 1 of their Cape Cod Baseball League East Division best-of-three series. Game 2 will be at Y-D's Red Wilson Field at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Tyler Houston (Butler) sparked the comeback in the eighth with a single, followed by a walk for Tommy Edman (Stanford). A single by Donnie Walton (Oklahoma State) drove in Houston to tie the game at 1.
Edman scored on a single by Dallas Carroll (Utah), and a sacrifice fly by Michael Donadio (St John's) scored Walton to make it 3-1.

Before the start of Game 1, Brewster third baseman Nick Senzel (Tennessee) was awarded the MVP trophy and relief pitcher Thomas Hackimer (St. John's) was named Outstanding Relief Pitcher (1-1, 0.46 ERA, 10 saves), an honor he will share with co-recipient Austin Conway (Indiana State) of the Bourne Braves.

Whitecaps designated hitter Brent Rooker (Mississippi State) gave Brewster a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the second, and that's how the score stayed until Y-D answered in the eighth.

Brewster cut it to 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth, which began with a walk for Whitecaps first baseman JC Escarra (Florida International), followed by a double by Rooker to send Escarra to third. An RBI single by utfielder Jack Meggs (Washington) scored Escarra on a single of his own, but Y-D set down the Whitecaps in order in the bottom of the ninth to prevail.

Firebirds 4, Anglers 1: Orleans ace Mitchell Jordan (Stetson) was recognized as the Outstanding Pitcher of the Year before the game at Eldredge Park and followed with a stellar 6 ⅔ inning performance to give the Firebirds the victory over Chatham in Game 1 of their East Division series on Monday. Game 2 will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Chatham's Veterans Field.

The Firebirds, who finished the regular season 31-12-1, also were honored with a Manager of the Year nod for their skipper, Kelly Nicholson.

Meanwhile, Jordan allowed just one run to cross the plate on a sacrifice fly by Will Craig (Wake Forest) in the first inning. Kyle Serrano (Tennessee) came on in the ninth to record the save.

Orleans quickly took the lead in the second inning when right fielder Kyle Lewis (Mercer) scored on a wild pitch, and Willie Abreu (Miami) scored on an error. Alex Call (Ball State) of the Firebirds scored on another wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth, and Bobby Dalbec (Arizona) crossed the plate on an RBI single by Abreu to make it 4-1.
