Hyannis Mets Unveil New Press Box

HYANNIS --The Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod Baseball League this week unveiled a $20,000 rebuilt and expanded press box facility at McKeon Field, located on High School Road behind the Horace Mann fifth grade school in Hyannis.

The Mets' press box building is a multi-purpose facility that also includes merchandise and concession stands, storage and utility areas, and a full media booth.

Several hard-working volunteers spent the past few months rebuilding the old cement press box, refurbishing it to have more of a Cape Cod flair with white cedar shingles, pine trim and a new roof.

Contributions that helped make the new press box possible included a $5,000 grant from the Hyannis Rotary Club, a $1,000 grant from the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce and a $500 mini-grant from the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.

Volunteers included members of the Hyannis Athletic Association including Bill Bussiere, president; Peter Scarafile and John Garner, vice presidents, Kim Wolfe, secretary; John Howitt, general manager; Brad Pfeifer, assistant GM; head coach Mike Juhl; Angelo Zona; Jack Alymer; Everett Martin; Tim Ellstrom; Will Bussiere; Angelo Delio; Rich Goral, Tom Bednark, Charlie LaMarca; Ed Derry; David Drake; Kim Shepley; Dale Harris (father of Mets' player Brendan Harris); Jim Midland; Geoff Converse; Walter Gadkowski; Rick Smedburg; Steve Dager, and his son James Dager.

The Hyannis Mets received contributions in materials and labor from the following area businesses: Bradford Hardware, Shepley Wood Products, Jim Curtiss Construction and Tufts Building.

The Hyannis Athletic Association has scheduled several future fund-raising events including a home run hitting contest at McKeon Field on August 4 - open to the public -- and a raffle for two Boston Red Sox box seats next to author Steven King's box at Fenway Park.
