Mid-Season Report

Competition is heating up as we head into our All-Star break. All ten teams are in the thick of the playoff race with winning streaks and losing streaks shifting the standings on a daily basis. The Orleans Cardinals are hosting the 2004 Summer Classic for the first time since 1994, when Todd Helton won the Home Run Hitting Contest. Their home field, Eldredge Park, was recently named the most beautiful summer league ballpark in the country by Baseball America, for the second time!

Scout’s Week has been very successful with all players having unique opportunities to showcase their throwing, hitting and running skills before dozens of major league scouts. Fans have enthusiastically enjoyed these events culminating with their opportunity to seek autographs from these scouts.

Attendance at all ballparks continues to exceed everyone’s expectations and the popularity of our family-friendly environment is at an all time high. Touching the Game, a documentary filmed in 2003 about the Cape Cod Baseball League has just gone on sale at all ballparks and through all media outlets. It is also available at www.touchingthegame.com. The 1 hour and 45 minute DVD has received rave reviews and has already been showing locally on WLVI out of Boston and nationally on WGN out of Chicago in front of 60 million subscribers. This is a must see for die-hard Cape Cod Baseball League fans and is a real bargain at $19.95.

Our playoffs are just around the corner and the ten field managers are all preparing their teams for the final playoff push as only two teams from each division qualify. The format is 2 out of 3 throughout the playoffs with the home team always being the one with the highest number of points throughout the regular season.

Our extraordinary volunteers, host families, employers and incredibly loyal fans never cease to amaze all of us with their unparalleled dedication to the CCBL and their favorite teams. We could not be more grateful or humbled by the awesome outpouring of support. Thanks for all you do in making the Cape Cod Baseball League the epitome of Americana!
