Video Tributes Celebrate Contributions Of Y-D’s Wilson, Falmouth’s Sturtevant

The recent opening of its new Hall of Fame and Museum in Hyannis is a perfect example of how the Cape Cod Baseball League recognizes and honors the contributions of those who helped build and nurture the No. 1 summer collegiate league in the country.

Similarly, when Yarmouth-Dennis and Falmouth met on June 28 in Brockton in the first City of Champions Cape Cod Hall of Fame Classic, the teams paid tribute to two men whose hard work and dedication to the game has become legendary by naming them honorary captains.

Chosen by Yarmouth-Dennis was Cape League Hall of Fame member Merrill “Red” Wilson, while Falmouth selected its retired general manager, Chuck Sturtevant.

Wilson was a multi-year all-star as a catcher for the old Yarmouth Indians and went on to manage Yarmouth and Yarmouth-Dennis teams for many years with great success. Sturtevant, Falmouth’s retired general manager, is credited with rescuing a struggling franchise and recruiting many talented ballplayers who have since gone on to stardom in the major leagues.

As part of the pre-game ceremonies on June 28, the Campanelli Stadium scoreboard displayed these two video tributes to Wilson and Sturtevant.
