“Where Millionaires Are Made”
In the June 2008 MLB entry draft, a total of 231 Cape Cod Baseball League graduates were selected by Major League teams. Fourteen of them were chosen in the first round and the 13 who signed became instant millionaires, as did one former CCBL player who was picked in the supplemental round. Versatile Yarmouth-Dennis catcher Buster Posey led the greenbacks parade by pocketing $6,200,000 from the San Francisco Giants. It was the largest bonus paid to any player taken in the 2008 draft of amateur players. In all, the CCBL graduates’ bank balances increased by $29,514,000!
