HYANNIS, Mass. – In an unprecedented move, the Cape Cod Baseball League executive committee voted unanimously to hold the next three CCBL All-Star Games at pre-determined sites on Cape Cod.

The 2013 Cape League All-Star Game will be held at Red Wilson Field in South Yarmouth, Mass., the home field of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, the last weekend in July. The last time the ASG was held at Y-D was 2006.

The 2014 CCBL ASG is slated for Doran Park in Bourne, Mass., the host site of the Bourne Braves and will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne. The Braves have never hosted an All-Star game since their inception in 1988.

And the Cape League’s 2015 mid-summer classic is scheduled for Spillane Field in Wareham for the first time since 2007.

“We’re excited to know where our next three All-Star Games will be held,” said CCBL Vice President Bill Bussiere, chair of the league’s All-Star Game committee.  “Each venue offer a unique way for our fans to enjoy this signature event.  All three organizations are strong and will be a delight to work with.”

Last year’s CCBL All-Star Game was held before a packed house of 3,812 fans at Whitehouse Field in Harwich and ended the game in a 1-1 tie between the East and West squads.

It was the first All-Star game held on Cape Cod since 2008 at Veteran’s Field in Chatham, as the past three years it had been hosted by the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

The 2012 game in Harwich was the 25th competition between East and West divisions since the East-West format was adopted in 1988. The Cape League started its present version of the All-Star game in 1963, the first year of the modern era when the league was officially sanctioned by the NCAA.

The ASG game in 1963 was an inter-league contest between the best of the Cape League and Cranberry League. The game was played at Sagamore’s Keith Field and Cotuit’s Cotton Nash, a basketball All-American at Kentucky, provided the heroics for the Cape All-Stars as he belted the first home run, a three-run blast, as the CCBL posted a 15-2 victory. Orleans’ Tom Yankus also homered and pitched two innings, while Cotuit’s Bernie Kilroy was the winner with four strikeouts.

From 1964-69, the league played an Upper Cape vs. Lower Cape contest and the next two decades played the Atlantic Collegiate League All-Stars in neutral sites such as Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium and Veteran’s Stadium.

In 1988 the league returned to its present format which featured East vs. West. Orleans hosted the game and the West won 4-3. Future big league sluggers Jeff Bagwell (Chatham) and Mo Vaughn (Wareham) each hit homers.
