Cape League Hall of Fame Ceremony
Set for 13 November at Chatham Bars Inn


CAPE COD, Mass. – Ten legends of the Cape Cod Baseball League will be inducted into the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame, Saturday, November 13 at Chatham Bars Inn, beginning at 10 am.
The induction ceremony will be followed by lunch at noon and a town meeting press conference at 1:30 p.m.

     Former Cape League slugger Jim Norris will be presented by Boston Red Sox executive Dick Bresciani, former Chatham A’s pitcher Roy Bruninghaus by Karl Clark, former Hyannis standout pitcher Pat Hope by Rex Holt, former Sagamore standout infielder Tello Tontini by Dudley Jensen, former Cotuit standout Bob Butkus by Jim Hubbard, former Cape League slugger Dave Staton by Anne Sullivan, former major league and Cotuit standout Will Clark by Kettleer executive Arnold Mycock, former manager Don Reed by Wareham President/GM John Wylde and current major league pitcher Eric Milton by Falmouth GM Chuck Sturtevant.

     The Fred Ebbett Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Ed Mooney of the Orleans Cardinals. Inductee John Caneira is not slated to attend at this time.


“TOUCHING THE GAME” WINS AT NORTHERN LIGHTS FESTIVAL
     The documentary film, “Touching the Game, about the Cape Cod Baseball League, captured first place in the Northern Lights Documentary Film Festival in Newburyport. This is the first year of the festival, making "Touching the Game" the first film ever to be shown and the first to win at this festival. The film has been presented to seven or eight other festivals.
     The DVD’s are available for sale in four categories (internet, telephone, retail and hand). The producer, Fields of Vision, has formed the partnership "Touching the Game LLC."
     The documentary will also be shown again on the WB stations in Chicago and St. Louis along with a special 90-minute edition on WB56 on Nov. 7 after a feature on the Head of the Charles.


BOURNE AND BREWSTER FIELDS TO BE READY IN 2006
     Two new playing surfaces in Bourne and Brewster are expected to be ready for action on the field for the 2006 season.
     Thanks to hard work by team volunteers, local financial support and of course, the recent news about a generous $300,000 field grant from the Yawkey Foundation, both teams are expected to boast state-of-the-art fields in 2006.
     The Whitecaps have been playing at Cape Tech in Harwich since 1988 and the move to their new facility adjacent to the Stony Brook Elementary School on Underpass Road in downtown Brewster. The new sports/municipal field will be used by the Whitecaps for approximately 60 days during the summer and will be available for use by youth groups the remaining 10 months of the year. The cost of the new field is estimated at $250,000.
     Instituted the same year as Brewster in 1988, the Braves have played at Mass. Maritime and at their current home site, Coady Field, and will being play at Upper Cape Regional Tech in Bourne summer after next.
     The facility will feature a new press box, concession stands and natural grass field, with much of the layout and construction done by the Cape Tech students, who will also assist with game-day operations as part of their educational experience. 


CAPE LEAGUE BREAKS ATTENDANCE RECORD
     A record 303,728 fans attended Cape League games during the summer of 2004. Attendance was up at all 10 parks as popularity in the league was at an all-time high. An excellent product on the field coupled with exciting pennant races down the stretch created a great deal of fan interest throughout the summer.


INTERNET LISTENERSHIP HITS THE CEILING FOR CCBL
     During the 2004 season, fans listened to Cape League games in record-setting numbers on Free Teamline: Total minutes listened on the Telephone were: 412,470 minutes. This comes out to 6,875 listener “hours”. Total listeners who accessed CCBL games on the Internet in 2004: 60,200. Total listeners / calls on the telephone were 20,212; Total people who accessed CCBL games in 2004 were: 80,412.


CAPE LEAGUE ROSTERS EXPAND TO 25 PLAYERS
     The CCBL executive committee has approved the expansion of Cape League rosters from 23 to 25 players beginning with the 2005 season. The change was made to allow more flexibility and offset the number of players still performing in the NCAA Division I Tournament at the beginning of the regular season. There will also be an opportunity to add more local players to Cape League rosters.


CCBL WEB-SITE ENJOYS RECORD-BREAKING NUMBERS
     The CCBL Web-site had 4.5 million hits in the month of July - an all time high, with an average stay of 7 minutes and 7000 unique visitors. The month of June saw 2.7 million hits, despite the season not starting until June 17. Many local newspapers had linked sites from the Cape League web-site, www.capecodbaseball.org.

AROUND THE HORN
     The Cape League’s Safe Transportation Project during the 2004 season was a rousing success, transporting some 6600 players, coaches, managers and trainers to all away games. The STP was sponsored by the Red Sox Foundation, Fagawi Charities, First Student Bus Company, Shields MRI and the Kelley Foundation…The CCBL is close to becoming 100% Heart Safe with nine of the 10 teams having defibrillators at their fields. In working with local fire departments and Emergency Medical Services CCBL Volunteers will receive CRP and AED training this winter…The CCBL Postseason Media Guide will be available next month.
