Sunday, June 17th CCBL Round Up

Sunday was a full day of double headers for the teams, the first of the year. All teams will have Monday off except for Bourne and Cotuit, where Jared DiCesare will start for the Braves, and Cotuit will throw John Baker (1-0).  The game will begin at 5PM in Cotuit.

Yarmouth-Dennis (2-4-1) at Cotuit (4-2)

Game One

Cotuit was able to take both games on Sunday, winning the first 5-4 and 11-3. The Kettleers won the first game in walk-off fashion thanks to a single by Zachary Biermann, scoring Zach Humphreys from second base with two outs.

Game Two

Biermann was yet again one of the stars in the second game, driving in another two runs of the eleven the team scored. Cotuit ended up winning this one easily 11-3. The Kettleers picked up eleven hits in this one, including a six-run fifth inning.

Brewster (2-5) at Hyannis (5-2)

Game One

Hyannis was able to score one run on a walkoff single off the bat of Eric Rivera in the eighth inning to take the first game 4-3. Both teams had seven hits and error each, and it all came down to an extra inning to decide the winner.

Game Two

Down 6-2 in the top of the seventh, Brewster rallied for three runs, but it wasn’t enough to take a game from the Hawks. It was an exciting game that ended 6-5. Brett Schulze was able to stop the bleeding in the top of the seventh, striking out the only batter he faced to end the game. Michael Massey added three hits for Brewster.

Game One

Harwich one-hit the Commodores in the first game, and had a good time offensively to defeat Falmouth 8-0. The Mariners scored five in the second inning, and added insult to injury in the seventh when they scored three more to seal the deal.

Game Two

Harwich kept Falmouth’s bats silent in game two as well, allowing just five hits and one run to take the second leg of the double header 5-1. Pitching was the key to both games for Harwich, and their bats also showed up to go 2-0 Sunday. Zach Watson had two big games for the Mariners, picking up another two hits, two RBI, and a walk in game two.

Orleans (2-4) at Wareham (5-2)

Game One

Sunday was full of walk-off wins, and Wareham joined the party thanks to a three-run home run off the bat of Austin Shenton helped the Gatemen comeback and win 4-3. Wareham was down 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh. This spoiled Orleans’ starter Riley Ornido’s solid start.

Game Two

Orleans came out swinging a hot bat in the second game, collecting sixteen hits and scoring ten runs to get revenge and beat Wareham 10-4. Wareham was riding a four game win streak to start the season, but has lost two games in the last two days, Orleans handing them their second loss of the year.

Chatham (4-2-1) at Bourne (2-4)

Game One

Chatham was able to score five of their seven runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh to take a 7-2 victory over the Braves. Bourne was plagued with three errors in the seven inning game, and proved to hurt them in the end. Chatham’s Spencer Torkelson had a game at the plate, including a home run.

Game Two

Chatham was able to complete the sweep against Bourne, taking another commanding win 4-1. Bourne was held to three hits and their lone run in the third inning. A strong start from Chatham’s Alek Manoah helped the winning effort. Bourne’s Casey Legumina also had a great start.
