CCBL 2007 Season Begins June 15

Cape Cod Baseball League Season Begins June 15

CAPE COD, Mass. – The CCBL executive committee has voted to start the Cape Cod Baseball League regular season on Friday, June 15, 2007 and concludes Wednesday, Aug. 8. The All-Star Game will be held Saturday, July 28 (rain date July 29) at a TBA site and the playoffs begin Friday, Aug. 10. 

CCBL Website Sets Records in 2006
     The Cape League’s official web-site, www.capecodbaseball.org, again set usage records in 2006 with over 17 million hits, 600,000 visitor sessions and 2.5 million page views during the summer months of June, July and August. This showed a 30% increase over each of the last three seasons.

CCBL Joins e-Gasp FUNraisers
     Representaives from the Cape League joined e-Gasp in two fund-raising auctions that netted approximately $5,800. A third auction has been cancelled but instead, each organization will decorate and display a "themed tree" inside the JFK Museum and the trees will be auctioned off during the Hyannis Christmas Stroll in December. Diane Troy of the Chatham A’s has offered her artistic talent to decorate the tree with a theme, “Home Plate for the Holidays.” Christmas Tree Shops are donating the 6' trees to each organization. The JFK Museum and Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce are working with Bill Murphy of e-Gasp to feature this as part of the Hyannis Christmas Stroll.

CCBL Signs Agreement with Under Armour
     Under Armour has agreed to become a supplier for cleated footwear and batting practice shirts in 2007. UA will be the Official Cleated Footwear of the CCBL and provide shoes to players and coaches who wish to wear them. 

ABCA Convention Slated for Orlando Jan. 4-7 
     Several league officials will attend the annual American Baseball Coaches Association, January 4 -7 at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort. Meetings with the National Association of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB) will be held Thursday night and Major League Baseball on Friday.

WBC Convention Set for Jan. 11-13 at Mohegan Sun
     The World Baseball Coaches convention will be held, January 11- 13 at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. This is an excellent opportunity to network and support New England baseball coaches.

Shepard And Quigley Honored by HACC and BC
     Two of the Cape League’s corporate friends, Randy Shepard, CEO of Eye Health Services and Ken Quigley, president of Curry College, were honored recently. Shepard was named Citizen of the Year by the Hyannis Area HACC and Ken Quigley was named Distinguished Boston College alumnus last week. 

Dick Bresciani Inducted into BoSox Hall of Fame 
     Former Cape League Director of Public Relations and long-time Red Sox executive Dick Bresciani was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame on Nov 9.Bresciani, an inaugural CCBL Hall of Fame inductee and current advisory board member of the Cape League Hall of Fame, has served in various capacities for the Red Sox , mostly in the public relations, historical and community relations departments.

Military All-Stars Return to Cape Cod June 9-10
     For the third straight season, the U.S. Military All-Stars will invade Cape Cod and will play exhibition games against CCBL players during the weekend of June 9-10 in Chatham and Orleans. Local families will again host service men who are on the traveling baseball team kicking off the Red White and Blue Tour of America.

Stategic Planning Committee to Reconvene in 2007
     The CCBL Strategic Planning Committee will reconvene with Hyannis GM John Howitt as chair. The committee will review the original plan devised four years ago and continue to look at strengths and weaknesses of the league while examining such topics as alumni development and endowments. 

99 Restaurant Returns in 2007
     The 99 Restaurants are back as official restaurant for 2007. The 99 will again support the Cape League’s full season, Hall of Fame and host the First Pitch Brunch at its West Yarmouth location. 99 VP Brad Schiff has been the driving force behind this sponsorship. 

ECAC Applies for NCAA Div. III Baseball Tournament Bid
     The Eastern College Athletic Conference has again applied to host the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Tournament at a pre-determined site at Whitehouse field in Harwich in mid-May. The NCAA is accepting applications and a decision will be made well in advance of the tournament. The CCBL will be working with the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and its Sports Committee and the Harwich Rec. Committee to support the effort. Al Bean, Southern Maine AD is the NCAA regional chair.

Rainy Summer on Cape Cod in 2006
     The Cape League experienced a record 32 rainouts and 31 re-scheduled games last summer. Commissioner Paul Galop and Deputy Commissioner Sol Yas were instrumental working with teams and umpires in rescheduling these games.

Outstanding Newspaper Coverage in 2006
     The Cape Cod Baseball League received unprecedented coverage in newspapers during the 2006 season, particularly in the Cape Cod Times and weekly newspapers such as the Barnstable Patriot, Cape Cod Sports Report, The Cape Codder and Upper Cape Codder, The Cape Cod Chronicle, Harwich Oracle and The Register. The Enterprise created Summer Stars which featured team and players over the 10-week period.
