Cory Snyder, whose 22-home run season for Harwich in 1983 still stands as the Cape Cod Baseball League's single-season record, is returning to the Jackson Generals as hitting coach for the 2012 season.

The Generals, the Double-A Southern League affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, are based in Jackson, Tenn.

Snyder played in the big leagues from 1986 to 1994 with the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers.

A three-time All-America selection at Brigham Young University, he enjoyed one of the best power-hitting seasons in Cape League history at Harwich in '83. Besides blasting a modern-day record 22 home runs, he batted .321, drove in 50 runs, scored 47 (third all-time) and compiled a .764 slugging average. He is the only Cape Leaguer to twice hit three home runs in one game and the only known player to homer in four consecutive at-bats, doing it on July 7-8.

In 1984, he played on the first U.S. Olympic Baseball Team, winning a Silver Medal.

The big right-handed slugger led the '83 Mariners to their first-ever Cape League championship, defeating Hall of Fame manager George Greer's Cotuit Kettleers in an exciting five-game title series. He was named winner of the Robert A. McNeece Award as the league's Outstanding Pro Prospect and was chosen for the All-League Team.

The Indians made Snyder their first-round draft choice in 1984 (fourth overall) and he made the big club two years later, debuting on June 13, 1986. As a 23-year-old rookie, he hit .272, belted 24 homers and drove in 69 runs. He smashed 83 homers in his first three seasons with the Tribe, but tailed off after that and never again reached 20 in a season.

In his nine-year MLB career, Snyder totaled 149 homers, 178 doubles, 13 triples and 488 RBIs while striking out 992 times. His career batting average was .247.

Snyder's last big league game came in 1994 as a member of the Dodgers, a team which he hit just 17 homers over two seasons.

In 2003, Snyder was inducted into the Cape League Hall of Fame in a class including big leaguers Sean Casey (Brewster 1994) of the Cincinnati Reds, Carlos Pena (Harwich 1996/Wareham 1997) of the Detroit Tigers and Cape League President Judy Walden Scarafile.
