Pitcher & Player of the Week

Coca Cola Pitcher and Player of the Week #9

COCA COLA PITCHER OF THE WEEK:

Matt Andriese, Cotuit, RHP

The final Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week is Cotuit’s Matt Andriese (Cal Riverside), who earned the honor after shutting down Y-D’s offensive juggernaut in the first game of the Cape League Championship Series. After Cotuit watched Y-D score 36 runs in its two-game sweep of Orleans, Andriese asked to take the ball in the first game of the championship. He did not disappoint, holding the Cape’s most feared offense to a meager three hits in a complete-game shutout. Thanks in part to Andriese’s workhorse performance, Cotuit was finally able to hoist the Arnold Mycock Trophy after falling short as Western Division champs in 2008 and 2009. The sophomore at UC Riverside is no stranger to summer league baseball. Before this past season, he was named Pitcher of the Year in the West Coast League, the Northwest’s version of the Cape League, where he went 5-0 with a 0.78 ERA.

COCA COLA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jordan Ribera, Y-D, 1B

The Cape League’s biggest bat has, fittingly, captured the last Coca Cola Player of the Week. Jordan Ribera (Fresno State), who was the Cape’s regular- and post-season RBI leader, the regular season home run leader, and the post-season home run co-leader, earned the award for a predictably stellar postseason. The junior Bulldog has made his power known to the nation in the collegiate ranks over the course of his NCAA career. He finished last season with a NCAA-best 27 homers, and batted .343, earning him a Second Team All-America designation.
