Stephen Williams received this year’s Curly Clement Award!

He was named the top Cape League umpire on Wednesday night in Bourne. Director of Officiating Sol Yas presented the award along with Nick Zibelli, president of the College Baseball Umpires Assigning Organization (CBUAO). Williams is in his 16th year as a baseball umpire and seventh year working Cape League games. Williams said the recognition is meaningful because the players are so invested on the Cape.

“With players at this level it means a lot to have their respect and the managers’ respect because you just want to go out and do a good job for them,” Williams said. “They’re trying to make a career out of this, so you want to go out and give your best.”

Curly Clement is a Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Famer and worked as an umpire for four decades in the league.
