CAPE COD, Ma. (December 5, 2016) – As Cape League officials prepare for the upcoming season, the League’s Executive Committee has approved two big changes to the 2017 schedule.

     Sue Horton, the Orleans Firebird’s general manger, was presented with the Dick Sullivan Executive of the Year Award, this past weekend.

     On a dreary November day, six inductees, who made up the 2016 class, were welcomed into the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Hall of Fame, and for a few short hours it was summer again.

We were saddened greatly today to learn of the passing of former CCBL Commissioner Dick Marr.

ORLEANS, Mass. – Sue Horton, of the Orleans Firebirds, was recently honored with the John Wylde General Manager of the Year award as the Cape Cod Baseball League’s top GM.

After posting some of the best numbers in the Cape Cod Baseball League during the 2016 regular season, the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox’s Kevin Smith turned it up a notch during the CCBL playoffs to earn Pointstreak Playoff Most Valuable Player honors.

     The 2016 season came to a close at Guv Fuller Field in Falmouth with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox capturing their third consecutive Arnold Mycock Trophy, emblematic of CCBL Playoff Champions.

     The Yarmouth Dennis Red Sox defeated the Falmouth Commodores, 3-0, in tonight’s Game 3 of the Championship Playoff Series at Guv Fuller Field in Falmouth.

The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox advanced to their third consecutive Cape Cod Baseball League championship series on Tuesday evening, earning the East Division Playoff Championship with a 4-1 win over the Chatham Anglers at Veterans Field.

The Bourne Braves take game one 7-4 in the West Division playoffs at Guv Field.

The No. 2 seeded Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox defeated the No. 4 seeded Chatham Anglers, 9-8, at Red Wilson Field on Monday evening.

The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox started off the 2016 season as reigning Cape Cod Baseball League champions, a title they have become accustomed to as they have won championships in both 2014 and 2015.

The East’s No. 4 seeded Chatham Anglers upset the division’s top-seeded Harwich Mariners by a final score of 3-1 on Sunday evening at Whitehouse Field.

     The Falmouth Commodores have had quite a year. They finished the regular season with an impressive 29-15-1 record after ending last summer in fifth place and missing the postseason.

Michael Gigliotti was given the Robert A. McNeece Award for the Cape Cod Baseball League's Top Pro Prospect prior to Friday night's contest.

The Falmouth Commodores’ dominant right-hander Jeffrey Passantino received the B.F.C. Whitehouse Award on Friday evening, crowning him the most outstanding pitcher in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

FALMOUTH, Mass - For the second time in 18 years with the Commodores, long-time Falmouth manager Jeff Trundy has received the Mike Curran Cape Cod Baseball League Manager of the Year award.

Austin Filiere (MIT), of the Harwich Mariners, was honored on Wednesday night as the recipient of the 2016 Manny Robello 10th Player Award. The award recognizes one player for showing endless dedication both on and off the field, and Filiere has demonstrated just that.

HARWICH, Mass. -- One of the top hitters in college baseball added another honor to his resume: Harwich infielder Ernie Clement has been named 2016 Pat Sorenti Cape Cod Baseball League Most Valuable Player.

For Preston Grand Pre of the Wareham Gatemen, being a temporary player for the Cape Cod Baseball League was short-lived. He joined the 2015 Gatemen on a temp contract before earning himself a permanent spot a few weeks into the season. He returns to the Gatemen this summer, with a well-deserved permanent contract and a consistent spot in Wareham’s starting lineup.

The rosters for the 2016 Friendly’s Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game and Home Run Hitting Contest were announced on Saturday morning at the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School following a meeting of the league’s 10 coaches.

A longstanding staple of the Cape Cod Baseball League are the summer baseball clinics the teams offer to the youth on Cape Cod. This clinic is run by Y-D manager Scott Pickler, referred to by the parents and kids as “Coach Pick”, along with a group of Y-D players.

     Fox College Sports will be telecasting the second week of Cape Cod Baseball League TV Games of the Week, beginning with the Orleans’ Firebirds hosting the Falmouth Commodores July 12th, followed the next night by the Commodores hosting the Wareham Gatemen on July 13th.

Post-fourth of July weekend, it’s the calm after the storm, and what better time to make a trip to Cape Cod? That is exactly what Louisiana State University (LSU) head coach, Paul Mainieri, was thinking. This past weekend he made the trip to check out his players who are playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

As the sun rose and the dew was still burning off the field, Cape Cod Baseball League players were in full swing on Thursday morning at Fenway Park for the league’s annual workout at the home of the Boston Red Sox.

Traci Wyse and Kathe Medwin have made it their goal to create a family atmosphere for their players. This includes going to every game and holding dinner off until 11 p.m. so players can eat with the family after their games. 

Although they are more than 1,700 miles from home, Beau and Bryce Jordan of the Brewster Whitecaps have fit in quickly in the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer.

     For the fourth straight summer, Fox College Sports will telecast a Cape Cod Baseball League Games of the Week, starting with Chatham Anglers hosting Cotuit Kettleers July 5th, followed by Bourne Braves hosting the Harwich Mariners July 6th.

The Anglers current first baseman from Richmond, Kyle Adams, grew up visiting his grandfather’s home in Chatham, and attending baseball camp coached by a team that he is now honored to be part of.

For the 2009 Cape League season, the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox scouted a native Floridian playing for Florida Gulf Coast University. That summer a tall, lanky LHP at 6 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds named Chris Sale, donned the Red Sox uniform.

Mark Hallberg is no stranger to baseball.  After five years playing professionally, he began coaching to provide insight on what he’s picked up after being drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

     Cape Cod Baseball League Commissioner Paul Galop and Director of Officiating and Senior Deputy Commissioner Sol Yas recently announced that the Cape Cod Baseball League and the College Baseball Umpires Assigning Organization have agreed to a contract extension. The two organizations are currently in the final year of a five-year agreement, and the contract will now extend through the 2022 season.

     ANAHEIM, Calif. – Regarded as one of the most successful coaches in franchise history, Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox manager Scott Pickler was inducted into the Savanna High School (Calif.) Hall of Fame last week.

     The Hyannis Harbor Hawks lost a piece of their heart and soul on Jan. 8 with the passing of John Howitt, who served as general manager for Hyannis from 1999 to 2007.
