Commissioners Corner - 2014 Midseason Report
As we pass the halfway mark in our 2014 season, all ten teams continue to battle for the coveted eight playoff positions. Anything can happen as we begin to head toward the homestretch.
Our weather has been very attractive this year and we can only hope that this beautiful weather continues.
All players have arrived from the College World Series in Omaha and our ten teams have finalized their rosters as they establish their own team chemistry.
Tuesday, July 15 is a big day for our players as they get ready to display their talents at Fenway Park in Boston in front of all 30 Major League Baseball team representatives. This has proved to be a very exciting day as who wouldn’t want to take batting practice and infield/outfield at Fenway? This is one of the highlights for our players each summer.
Our All-Star game this year is at beautiful Doran Park in Bourne, overlooking the Cape Cod Canal. The Bourne Braves serve as our gracious hosts for this special event on Sunday, July 27. Game time is 6 p.m. sharp, but show up early for the Home Run Hitting Contest and pre-game activities. This is always a great event for the whole family.
Our playoffs begin on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at four different venues. The top four teams from each division square off in the best two out of three series in front of what have always been huge crowds. The winners keep advancing and it’s anyone’s guess who will be left standing with the coveted Arnold Mycock Trophy, emblematic of the CCBL Playoff Champions. The parity in the Cape Cod Baseball League among our ten franchises is amazing and any one of our teams could walk away with this year’s championship.
We hope you will join us out at the ballparks to find out who will be crowned this year’s champion. One thing is certain; the excitement as we head toward the playoffs will be immense! See you at the games!
