Kyle Roller named
PA SportsTicker Star of Stars Award as
MVP of Cape League Playoffs

COTUIT, Mass.—Kyle Roller (East Carolina) joined the likes of Mo Vaughn (Wareham ’88) and Charles Nagy (Harwich ’87) when he was awarded the Playoff MVP award in Cotuit this season. As the Braves sealed the deal on their first championship in franchise history, no one deserved more credit than Roller.

Roller was also named to the All-League Team for his heroics in the regular season, not to mention the hardware he took home as the regular season MVP. Kyle was thrilled, but he was happier to win the League Title.

“We had great chemistry, just a great group of guys. The award was an honor, but the championship is why we were here and it was great to get it,” said the slugger after the Braves knocked off the Cotuit Ketteleers in a sweep.

Roller’s season and his playoffs were absolutely prolific. He hit .342 with 10 round trippers and 33 RBI during the regular season, a big part of the reason Bourne was in the playoffs at all. But as most great players do, Roller found another gear in the playoffs. He hit an even .500 in post-season play with a home run and eight runs driven in. He slugged a preposterous .786 in the playoffs and helped lead Bourne to the championship for which it was so hungry.

A 47th round pick by the Oakland A’s, Roller is yet unsigned. He will likely return for another season at East Carolina and try his luck in next year’s MLB first-year player draft. But what he did on the Cape will not be forgotten.

“You can’t say enough about what that kid has done for us,” said Braves’ assistant GM Darin Weeks of the team’s slugger. “He has a great approach at the plate and he’s a good kid. Having him here has been a real pleasure and we would never have been so successful without him.”
