No. 1 Chatham 6, No. 4 Yarmouth-Dennis 0

The President’s Trophy-winning Chatham Anglers showed why they were the league’s top team in the regular season with a dominant win over the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in their Eastern Division opener.

Lukas Schiraldi (Texas) was presented with BFC Whitehouse Outstanding Pitcher of the Year honors before the game, and owned that title with seven scoreless innings of two-hit ball. He walked none and struck out six in the outing.

Mitch Merten (Cal-Irvine) followed with two hitless innings to lock up the win. The Anglers' big blow came on a grand slam by Dante Flores (USC) in the second inning. Connor Joe (San Diego) added a solo home run in the seventh inning.

No. 3 Harwich 6, No. 2 Orleans 5

Game 1 of this East series was a back-and-forth battle in which the Orleans Firebirds outslugged the Harwich Mariners 11-8 but could not muster up enough runs.

Ian Happ (Cincinnati) and Tanner English (South Carolina) each belted two-run home runs for Harwich while Duke teammates Jordan Betts (grand slam) and Chris Marconcini (solo shot) provided the offense for Orleans.

The Mariners got an impressive four-inning save from Jonathan Frebis (Middle Tennessee), who did not allow a run and gave up only three hits.
