SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass. – The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox and manager Scott Pickler have formally announced three additions to the team’s coaching staff for the 2014 season. Joining Y-D will be Roberto Mercado, Erich Pfohl and Kyle Hallock.

Mercado is currently the head coach at New Britain High School (Conn.) and, in his inaugural season at the helm (2011), helped lead his team to its first conference championship since 1984. In his time at New Britain, he has coached 13 All-Conference players and two who have received All-State honors. Aside from coaching the Hurricanes, Mercado previously coached the New Britain Fall Legion program and captured state titles in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

Pfohl serves Cal State Dominguez Hills in a number of capacities, most notably as an assistant baseball coach and as athletics facility coordinator. In his coaching role, Pfohl has helped the Toros recognize significant growth both on and off the field. Since his first season (2010), 12 former players have signed professional contracts, with several others receiving All-American and All-West Region honors. He also has previous experience coaching in summer collegiate baseball, having served as an assistant coach with the Mankato Moondogs of the Northwoods League.

Hallock is a four-year letter winner and 2011 graduate of Kent State University. He formerly spent time in the Houston Astros farm system as a pitcher, making nine appearances for the Oklahoma City RedHawks (AAA) in 2013. In his time as a player at Kent State, the Sandusky, Ohio, native helped lead the Golden Flashes to four consecutive Mid-American Conference Championships. Hallock also founded Pirate Pitching Camp in 2011, which has helped develop more than 60 pitchers since its inception.

The Red Sox and the rest of the Cape Cod Baseball League begin the 2014 season in less than a month — on the evening of Wednesday, June 11. Y-D begins its schedule on the road, facing the Harwich Mariners at 7 p.m. from Whitehouse Field.
