Congratulations to the Cotuit Kettleers the 2019 Cape League Champions!

Cotuit defeated the Harwich Mariners 10 - 3 to take the best 2 out of series.

The Kettleers jumped on top right away with two solo blasts in the first inning, one by Matt Mervis and another by Casey Schmitt. After Harwich left two runners on base in the top of the fourth, Schmitt struck again in the bottom of the frame with his second homer of the game. The Kettleers then added another run and had the bases loaded with one out, but pitcher Connor McCullough got a ground ball double play to escape the inning.

Harwich got themselves back in the game in the fifth by replicating the Kettleers’ first inning, with solo shots by Riley Tirotta and Niko Kavadas. But Cotuit struck right back in the bottom of the inning, batting around and scoring six times to break the game wide open. The Mariners got a run back in the seventh to knock out Cotuit starter Sean Sullivan, but reliever Nick Jones stranded two runners on base to end the rally. Jones then worked the eighth before giving way to Schmitt who pitched a scoreless ninth to clinch Cotuit’s 17th Cape League championship.
