CAPE COD BASEBALL LEAGUE TEAM RANKED THIRD IN
MARCH OF DIMES TELERAMA 2003

CAPE COD, MA - A team comprised of individuals from the Cape Cod Baseball League raised a total of $6,445.00 - good for third place among 10 participating teams - during the 2003 March of Dimes Cape Cod Telerama.

The Cape League team hit the phones during the "Rowdy Hour" of 9-10 p.m. on Sunday and enabled the March of Dimes to break its all-time record high of pledges with a grand total of $46,043.00 -- an increase of more than $9,000 from its previous high of $37,000.

The squad consisted of Bill Bussiere, Hyannis Mets; John Garner, Cape Cod Baseball League and Hyannis Mets; Randy Shepard, Hyannis Mets; Patti Lloyd, Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox; Peg Rose, Harwich Mariners; Sue Horton, Orleans Cardinals; Cyndi Williams, Orleans Cardinals, Kim Wolfe, Cape Cod Baseball League and Hyannis Mets and Dave Willard of the Cape Cod 5 Cents Savings Bank and Cotuit Kettleers.

The pledges go toward medical research, advocacy and education and are used to help conquer birth defects and pre-maturity, the leading cause of infant mortality in Massachusetts.

"There was a sense of community spirit among the pledge teams and it was representative of how Cape Codders get things done," said Terry Moore, March of Dimes Cape & Island Division Director. "No one is trying harder than the March of Dimes to see that every baby has a healthy start in life."

Former Cape League Commissioner and President Dick Sullivan, now a CCBL Director-at-Large, once again served as master of ceremonies for the Telerama, along with Matt Pitta of WQRC and Associated Press and John Whalen of the Chatham A's.
