Pre-Season Report

As we get ready to kick off our 2006 season, there is plenty of excitement in the Cape Cod Baseball League. We have two brand new fields this year in Bourne and Brewster. The new field that will be home to the Brewster Whitecaps is located behind Stony Brook Elementary School on Underpass Road in Brewster which is just off of Route 137 (Exit 11).

As in the past, Brewster games will start at 5PM. The Bourne Braves are putting the finishing touches on their new field which is located behind the Upper Cape Tech Regional High School overlooking the Cape Cod Canal. The Bourne games will also remain at 5PM with a sincere determination to have night games at some point in the future.

Our general managers and coaching staffs have been busy recruiting and signing the most talented collegiate players in the nation. Here are some interesting statistics to share with you about this talent. Team USA each year invites student-athletes to tryout for the United States national team. Once again this year nearly 90% of the invitees have a Cape Cod Baseball League relationship. Another interesting fact is as the NCAA starts regional play with their 64 team field, 67% of CCBL contracted players for 2006 will be participating. You can imagine the juggling act each one of our teams management must endure to determine what athletes will be arriving on Cape Cod and when.

As our regular season starts on June 15th, the Orleans Cardinals look to defend their championship from last summer and two out of the last three years. It is hard to believe that it was ten months ago when they were presented with the Arnold Mycock Trophy signifying their championship of the 2005 CCBL season at Eldredge Park in Orleans.

So, many months of planning and preparing for the 2006 season throughout the winter doldrums have concluded. It is time to hear the crack of the wooden bats and enjoy a true taste of Americana, the Cape Cod Baseball League. The labor of love that the CCBL volunteers subscribe to is amazing. The dedication of our fans is second to none. It is not an accident that the Cape Cod Baseball League is widely recognized as the best collegiate summer baseball league in America. You are watching the future stars of Major League Baseball every night at our ballparks. Right now there are nearly 200 players in the Major Leagues that once played in the Cape Cod Baseball League. We are very proud of that accomplishment and you, our loyal fans, have been a very big part of that and we are most appreciative. Best wishes for a great 2006 CCBL season!
