Cape Cod Baseball League’s TV Game of the Week: Week 2

     Fox College Sports will be telecasting the second week of Cape Cod Baseball League TV Games of the Week, beginning with the Orleans’ Firebirds hosting the Falmouth Commodores July 12th, followed the next night by the Commodores hosting the Wareham Gatemen on July 13th.

     Produced by USA World Media in cooperation with the CCBL, the Games of the Week will be available to Fox’s audience of 60 million households.

     The Firebirds currently sit in the middle of the 2016 league standings with a record of 13-12. Kentucky shortstop Riley Mahan has been a dominant force for Orleans, batting .362 and scoring 13 runs in his 105 at-bats. Teammate Adam Haseley has also contributed to the Firebirds’ success at the plate with 26 hits, 2 homeruns and a .325 average.

     Joe Ryan has lead Orleans in pitching, posting an impressive 0.75 ERA and 21 strikeouts in his team-leading 24 innings pitched. Zach Logue has also seen great success on the mound so far this season, striking out 17 batters while only giving up 1.65 earned runs in his 10 appearances.

     The Falmouth Commodores are currently atop the West Division with a record of 16-10. Center fielder Michael Gigliotti has been dominant for Falmouth at the plate, leading his team in hits with 28 and batting .304. Third baseman Willie Burger has also been a great asset to the Commodores lineup, batting .257 in his 74 at-bats, posting 19 hits with 8 RBIs.

     Falmouth’s Jeffrey Passantino leads the Commodores on the mound, posting a 0.72 ERA in 25 innings with an impressive 24 strikeouts. Stephen Villiness has lead Falmouth’s relief efforts, making 10 appearances and posting a perfect 0.00 ERA.

     The Commodores will return home after their game in Orleans to host the 12-11 Wareham Gatemen, who sit right behind them in the West Division rankings, the following night July 13th.

     Wareham’s Colton Shaver has lead the Gatemen at the plate this season, posting 22 RBIs, 20 hits, and five homeruns in his 74 at-bats. His success is accompanied by Robert Metz’s, who has 24 hits and an average of .312 in his 22 games played.

     Zachary Pop has been a consistent leader on the mound for the Gatemen, pitching 21 innings in which he has 19 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.86. Gunnar Leger has been a force for Wareham’s relief efforts with an impressive 0.00 ERA and 21 strikeouts in his 5 appearances.

     Handling play-by-play for the FOX Games of the Week will be Eric Frede, accompanied by sideline reporter, Megan O’Brien, while former Red Sox and Phillies fire-balling relief pitcher, Ken Ryan, will be doing color analysis.

     The games will be produced by USA World Media, a leading provider of sports content for collegiate and amateur sports, in cooperation with the CCBL and FOX College Sports.

     Sports radio station 96.3 WEEI Cape Cod will broadcast this week’s Sunday Night Baseball Game of the Week, a matchup between the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (15-11) hosting the Harwich Mariners, who currently lead the league with a 16-8 record.

     Shortstop Kevin Smith leads the Red Sox with 26 hits and scoring 12 runs in his team-leading 89 at-bats. Brendan Skidmore has also had success at the plate this season, posting 3 homeruns and an impressive 16 RBIs in 26 games.

     Will Gaddis leads the Sox on the mound with a 1.37 ERA and a team-leading 24 strikeouts in his 26.1 innings pitched. Relief pitcher Bryan Pall enters the week with an impressive 0.77 ERA in his 10 appearances, striking out 14 batters and only giving up a single run.

     Yarmouth-Dennis will take on 1st place Harwich, who have been consistently lead this season by second baseman Ernie Clement, who enters the game with a .370 average and 37 hits in his 100 at-bats. Teammate Joseph Durand leads the Mariners in RBIs with 13, posting 25 hits and a .362 average in his 18 games played.

     On the mound, BJ Meyers continues to be a force for the Mariners with a record of 3-0 and a 0.95 ERA. Closer Zach Schellenger enters this week with a team-leading 5 saves and posting an impressive 0.82 ERA in his 10 appearances.
