Week 7: July 22-July 28 Cape League Standouts

From the players that participated in the 2019 All-Star events, to the ones that received extra rest, and with two tornados impacting some games, here are this week’s standout performances:

Chatham Anglers

⦁    Cole Ayers SP: The sophomore starter from Kentucky recorded his second win of the season on July 24th against the Y-D Red Sox. Ayers pitched five shutout innings giving up only two hits, one walk, and struck out five.
⦁     Jeremy Wu-Yelland LHP: The junior from Hawaii recorded his second win of the season on July 25th against the Y-D Red Sox. Wu-Yelland pitched four and two- thirds shutout innings giving up two hits, three walks, and struck out five.
⦁    Mason Hazelwood LHP: The junior Kentucky Wildcat had two good outings out of the bullpen. Hazelwood pitched a total of five and two-thirds innings giving up two runs, one earned run, one hit, seven walks, and struck out three. Hazelwood is now two and zeroes this season with a 1.80 ERA in 25 innings pitched, with 32 strikeouts.

Brewster Whitecaps

⦁     Mason Black SP: The starter sophomore from Lehigh pitched another quality start on July 24th against the Cotuit Kettleers. Black pitched five shutout innings giving up three hits, one walk, and struck out five.
⦁     Sean Fisher LHP: The lefty reliever from Maryland College Park recorded his third win of the season on July 24th against the Cotuit Kettleers. Fisher pitched four shutout innings giving up only one hit and struck out four.
⦁     Jesse Franklin OF/1B: The junior from Michigan had a good week. Franklin went seven for 18, with four runs, two doubles, one home run, four runs batted in, and one walk.
⦁    Connor Shamblin SP: The freshmen from Alabama had a quality start on July 28th against the Orleans Firebirds. Shamblin pitched seven shutout innings giving up four hits, four walks, and struck out two.
⦁     T.J. Collett 1B: The senior Kentucky wildcat had a good week. Collett went six for 20, with four runs, three home runs, nine runs, one walk, and one stolen base. Collett is now tied for number one in home runs in the league with nine and tied for third in runs batted in with 30.

Harwich Mariners

⦁     Connor McCullough SP: The former pitcher of the week red shirt freshmen from Kansas State recorded his second win of the season on July 25th against the Cotuit Kettleers. McCullough pitched five shutout innings giving up four hits, two walks, and struck out three. McCullough now has a 1.05 ERA in 25.2 innings pitched with 29 strikeouts.
⦁     Connor Sechler SP: The junior from Missouri State recorded his third win of the season on July 28th against the Chatham Anglers. Sechler pitched 6 innings giving up one earned run, two hits, two walks, and struck out seven. Sechler is now three and two with a 2.76 ERA in 26 innings pitched with 29 strikeouts.
⦁    Jacob Palisch SP: The former pitcher of the week junior southpaw from Stanford University recorded this first no-hitter of the season. On July 24th against the Orleans Firebirds in their first doubleheader, Palisch pitched seven no-hit innings giving up only two walks, and struck out seven. Palisch is now four and one this season, with a 0.93 ERA in 29 innings pitched, and 33 strikeouts.
⦁     Chris Lanzilli OF: The junior from Wake Forest had a good week. Lanzilli went eight for 17, with six runs, two doubles, one home run, six runs batted in, and three walks. Lanzillis standout performance was on July 24th against the Orleans Firebirds going two for three, with two runs, one home run, and one run batted in.

Orleans Firebird:

⦁     Shay Whitcomb SS/2B: The junior middle infielder from the University of California San Diego had another good week. Whitcomb went nine for 26, with four runs, three doubles, three home runs, five runs batted in, and one walk. Whitcomb's standout performance was on July 27th against the Brewster Whitecaps going three for three, with two runs, one double, one home run, one run batted in, and one hit by pitch.
⦁     Jacob Hurtubise CF: The senior outfielder from US Military Academy had a good week. Hurtubise went seven for 20, with three runs, three doubles, one triple, one run batted in, and four walks. Hurtubise standout performance was on July 27th against the Brewster Whitecaps in the second game of their doubleheader going two for three, with one double, one triple, one run batted in, and one walk.
⦁     Austin Love SP: The junior Tar Heel recorded his second win of the season on July 22nd against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. Love pitched five shutout innings giving up five hits, one walk, and struck out six.
⦁     Connor Pellerin RHP: The junior from Tulane University had two quality outings out of the bullpen. Pellerin pitched a shutout inning in both games giving up only one walk, struck four, and recorded his third save of the season on July 22nd against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.

Y-D Red Sox

⦁     Austin Wells C/IF: The former player of the week sophomore from the University of Arizona had another good week. Wells went ten for 29, with four runs, five doubles, two runs batted in, four walks, and one stolen base.
⦁     Riley King IF/OF: The senior Georgia Bulldog had a good week. King went ten for 27, with four runs, two doubles, two runs batted in, two walks, and one stolen base.
⦁     Brady Corrigan RHP: The junior from Arizona State University had three good outings out of the bullpen. Corrigan pitched four and one-third shutout innings giving up six hits, four walks, and struck out two.
⦁    Erik Tolman SP: The sophomore southpaw from Arizona State University had a quality start on July 26th against Harwich Mariners. Tolman pitched five innings giving up two earned runs, four hits, two walks, and struck out six. 

Bourne Braves

⦁     Ryan Cusick SP: The former pitcher of the week sophomore from Wake Forest had another quality start on July 22nd against the Y-D Red Sox. Despite recording the loss, Cusick pitched six innings giving up two earned runs, five hits, one walk, and struck out two.
⦁    Jimmy Glowenke SS/3B: The sophomore from Dallas Baptist University had a good week. Glowenke went ten for 26, with one run, two doubles, one home run, nine runs batted in, three walks, and one stolen base. Glowenkes standout performance was on July 25th against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the first game of there doubleheader. Glowenke went three for three, with one run, one home run, and three runs batted in.
⦁    Jake Mackenzie SS/2B: The junior from Fordham University had a good week. Mackenzie went eight for 16, with six runs, two doubles, two home runs, two runs batted in, four walks, and one stolen base. Mackenzie's standout performance was on July 28th against the Falmouth Commodores going three for four, with two runs, two home runs, and two runs batted in.
⦁     Kieran Shaw CL: The senior closer from Harvard had three good outings out of the bullpen this week. Shaw recorded two saves while pitching three shutout innings in three games, giving up only one hit, one walk, and struck out eight.

Cotuit Kettleers

⦁     Trey Holland LHP: The junior southpaw from the University of the South had a quality start on July 24th against the Brewster Whitecaps. Holland pitched five shutout innings giving up four hits and struck out seven.
⦁    Matt Mervis: The senior Duke Blue Devil had a good week at the plate and on the mound. Mervis went seven for 16, with two doubles, and four runs batted in. Mervis also pitched on July 27th against the Chatham Anglers throwing two shutout innings giving up one hit, with two strikeouts.
⦁     Nick Gonzales: The junior two-time player of the week from New Mexico State had another good week. Gonzales went seven for 20, with five runs, one double, one triple, four runs batted in, and two hit by pitches. Gonzales leads the league in hit by pitches with nine.
⦁     Oraj Anu: The junior Kentucky Wildcat had a good week. And went nine for 22, with five runs, one home run, and three runs batted in. Anus standout performance was on July 26th against the Wareham going two for three, with two runs, one home run, and three runs batted in.
⦁     Sean Sullivan SP: The sophomore from the University of California Berkeley had another quality outing on July 23rd against the Bourne Braves. Sullivan pitched seven shutout innings giving up only four hits and struck out six.

Hyannis Harbor Hawks

⦁     Nick Loftin IF/OF: The sophomore from Baylor went five for 12 this week, with four runs, one home run, two runs batted in, and one stolen base. Loftin's standout performance was on July 23rd against the Harwich Mariners in their second game of the doubleheader going three for four, with three runs, one home run, two runs batted in, and one stolen base.
⦁     Hunter Goodman C/OF: The sophomore from the University of Memphis had a good week. Goodman went eight for 26, with three runs, one double, two home runs, and six runs batted in.
⦁    Joseph Quintal SP: The junior from Fordham University had a quality outing on July 28th against the Wareham Gatemen in the second game of their doubleheader. Quintal pitched four and one-third innings giving up one earned run, one hit, six walks, and struck out five.

Wareham Gatemen

⦁     Ian Bedell SP: The junior from Mizzou recorded his fourth win of the season on July 27th against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. Bedell pitched five shutout innings giving up only four hits and struck out eight. Bedell now has a 0.58 ERA in six games started, with 30.2 innings pitched, and 36 strikeouts.
⦁     Matthew Rudick OF: The junior from San Diego State had a good week. Rudick went six for 16, with seven runs, one double, one run batted in, four walks, and three stolen bases.
⦁    Zack Mathis IF/C: The junior from Louisiana State had a good first week playing on the Cape. Mathis went four for 15, with two runs, one double, one triple, one home run, and five runs batted in
⦁     Tevin Murray LHP: The senior from Rutgers University New Brunswick had two good outings in his first week playing on Cape. Murray recorded a win on July 23rd against the Y-D Red Sox pitching one shutout innings giving up one hit, one walk, and stockout one. Murray also had a good start on July 28th against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the second game of their doubleheader pitching four shutout innings giving up only one hit, two walks, and struck out five.

Falmouth Commodores

⦁     Justin Wrobleski LHP: The sophomore from Clemson recorded his second win of the season on July 25th against the Orleans Firebirds. Wrobleski pitched five shutout innings giving up five hits, two walks, and struck out three.
⦁     Jackson Coutts 1B/OF: The junior from the University of Rhode Island had a good week. Coutts went seven for 17, with one run, one double, and four runs batted in.
⦁     Hayden Cantrelle SS/CF: The former player of the week junior from the University of Louisiana Lafayette had a good week. Cantrelle went eight for 24, with five runs, three doubles, one run batted in, seven walks, and one stolen base.
⦁     Nick Nastrini SP: The sophomore from UCLA had two quality starts this week. The first start was on July 22nd against the Brewster Whitecaps recording the win by pitching five innings giving up one earned run, with five hits, two walks, and six strikeouts. Nastrinis second quality start was on July 28th against the Bourne Braves pitching five innings giving up one earned run, with five hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts. Nastrini this season is now two and one with a 2.63 ERA in 27.1 innings pitched with 30 strikeouts.
⦁     Carmen Mlodzinski SP: The junior from the University of South Carolina Columbia recorded his second win of the season on July 26th against the Orleans Firebirds. Mlodzinski pitched five shutout innings giving up only five hits and struck out five. Mlodzinski is now two and zero with a 2.14 ERA in 29.1 innings pitched, with 40 strikeouts.
