The Cape Cod League would like to extend its congratulations to A.J. Minter (Cotuit ‘14) on winning the 2021 World Series with the Atlanta Braves last night. Minter joins an illustrious list of Cape Leaguers to earn a World Series Ring, especially in recent years. In at least each of the previous five World Series’, multiple members of the World Series Champions were Cape League alumni. Minter was a vital piece of Atlanta’s bullpen throughout the season. He pitched 52.1 innings in 61 games, all in relief. He was trusted in the biggest moments for the Braves. Minter had a 3.78 ERA with 57 strikeouts. He had a 9.8 K/9 ratio, zero wild pitches and only 20 walks. His lone appearance of the NLDS came during game five against the Milwaukee Brewers. He was dominant, throwing 1.1 innings with three strikeouts and did not allow a runner on base. The Braves won that game 5-4 and also clinched the series 3-1. In the NLCS, Minter was even more deadly. He pitched six innings in four relief appearances against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He had eight strikeouts, only allowed two hits and no runs allowed. In the World Series, Minter appeared three times in high leverage situations for the Braves. He gave up four hits and six runs. He ended the postseason as one of the most dominant relievers in baseball. In eight appearances, he finished with a 3.00 ERA, 12 innings pitched and 18 strikeouts. A Kettleer alum, Minter was indispensable for the best team in baseball. Minter’s stint with the Kettleers in 2014 was short but extremely effective. He pitched four times in six days, logging 7.2 innings pitched with 2.34 ERA, 11 strikeouts and a save. In those appearances, he only allowed seven total baserunners.
