Watch out, Hyannis Harbor Hawks fans. Christmas in July was just the beginning.
Last week's holiday-inspired event was a smashing success and McKeon Park was all decked out to with holly-jolly Christmas decorations. Carols could be heard crooning from the speakers while players and interns donned in Santa hats were busy peddling 50/50 raffle tickets.
Stockings with players' names were hung from the fence with care, and soon St. Nicholas himself would be there. Santa took a vacation from the North Pole to throw out the first pitch before the Harbor Hawks' Cape Cod Baseball League game against the Harwich Mariners.
“(It was) much more than I thought it was gonna be when I walked in," said Karen Hurley, treasurer of the Hyannis Athletic Association. "Last year was fantastic, but this year may have won.”
Hyannis didn't ultimately win its game with Harwich, but perhaps it was because the Harbor Hawks were caught up in the Christmas spirit. Regardless, the Harbor Hawks are enjoying a sizable five-point lead in the West Division.
With just four regular-season home games remaining for Hyannis, Cape League fans should try to make it to McKeon Park. You never know what fun those jolly Harbor Hawks have in store for you.
