Orleans Firebirds defeat Bourne Braves (Orleans Ties Series 1-1)

The scene was set at Doran Park where the defending Cape League Champions, Bourne Braves, prepared for war against the Orleans Firebirds in Game 2.

Fenwick Trimble struck first for the Firebirds with an RBI single followed by Eddie Micheletti Jr. with another single to right field.

Orleans kept the lead in the first as Bryce Eblin sent an RBI double into right field, bringing one run up on the board for Bourne.

Their advances were shot down again in top second by Trimble, who after hitting a sac fly to centerfield gave the Firebirds another run on the board.

The game remained at a stalemate until Jo Oyama wreaked havoc on the Braves, drilling a homerun to right field in the top of the seventh.

Before retiring in the bottom of the seventh, Orleans’ Ivran Romero gave up one run over the course of his outing.

Mayhem broke out in the ninth inning when Orleans seemed to have gotten a little too comfortable with their lead.

With Bryce Eblin reaching first on an error and Derek Bender walking, the Firebirds called in Sean Matson from the bullpen to end the game.

Bourne seemed to rattle Orleans’ cage a bit with Sam Peterson’s ground rule double and Hugh Pinkneys sac fly, desperately trying to bring them back from the dead.

This attempt fell short with the final out of the game called, the series has led to a tie with Orleans winning 4-3.

It’s anyone's game now, the stakes are high but the energy is higher. Only time will tell tomorrow back at Eldredge Park who will take home the title of being the Cape Cod Baseball Leagues 2023 champions.
