Coca Cola Pitcher and Player of the Month

COCA COLA PITCHER OF THE MONTH (JULY):

Kyle Blair, Brewster RHP

The Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Month for July has been awarded to Kyle Blair (San Diego) of Brewster. Blair’s record remains flawless on the season, winning three and losing none. Over the past month, the 6-3 righty has appeared in four games, all of them starts, and recorded 27 innings pitched. Over those 27 innings, Blair has surrendered only 12 hits and three earned runs, good for a 1.00 ERA. He also sports a 1.40 strikeouts-per-innings-pitched ratio, with 38 strikeouts this month.

Blair’s season statistics are just as impressive. His three wins tie him for second in the league, while his 47 strikeouts rank him alone in second place in that category. He also currently stands at third in the league with an ERA of 1.14 over 38 strong innings. Blair was also named the Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week for July 12-18, when he gave up no earned runs in a 10-2 victory over Bourne. He was named an All-Star this season, surrendering a run over an inning of work at Fenway Park.

Blair is a sophomore at University of San Diego. He led the Toreros in ERA in 2009, at 3.13, and also led the team with a .225 batting average against. Blair began to turn heads his freshman year, posting an 8-4 record and earning All-West Coast Conference Freshman Team honors.

COCA COLA PLAYER OF THE MONTH (JULY):

Todd Cunningham, Falmouth OF

Commodore Todd Cunningham (Jacksonville State) has earned the Coca-Cola Player of the Month distinction for July. Cunningham, who was named Player of the Week for July 5-11, has amassed a .427 average over 23 games this month. Out of the leadoff spot, Cunningham has 38 hits, including five doubles, one a triple and a home run. His .495 OBP is perfect for a leadoff man, while his .539 slugging percentage is a pleasant surprise from that spot of the lineup. Cunningham also scored 22 runs for Falmouth in July.

Cunningham has been one of the league’s best all season. His .407 average leads the league, while his astounding 21 runs batted in from the leadoff spot rank him fourth in the league. Cunningham is also far and away the league’s hit leader at 55, 12 ahead of the next best hitter. His .477 OBP also leads the league, while his .541 slugging percentage is second. Finally, Cunningham’s 29 runs scored also lead the league.

As a sophomore at Jacksonville State, Cunningham batted an impressive .339, scored a team-high 66 runs, tied for the team lead in home runs (10), tied for second in stolen bases (9), and led the team in triples with nine. His two years at Jacksonville State have been highlighted by a long list of awards as a freshman, including Freshman All-America, Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Freshman of the Year, and OVC All-Conference Second Team.
